Don't Mud Wrestle With Trolls

Don't Mud Wrestle With Trolls

Last month someone in the anti-corruption sphere posted negative, personal, comments on social media about my business partner, Kristy Grant-Hart.  While this person is certainly welcome to his opinions, and constructive criticism and debate, such as the recent Great ISO Debate with Tom Fox, is an important part of professional and business growth, name-calling and insulting those who hold different views – on social media or elsewhere – is unprofessional and inexcusable.

Singapore adopts ISO 37001

Singapore adopts ISO 37001

Last week Singapore announced that it has adopted the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Systems Management Standard to help companies there implement and manage anti-bribery best practices.

Singapore's adoption of ISO 37001 comes hot on the heels of Peru, which formally adopted the Standard on April 4, becoming the first Latin American country to do so.

SPRING Singapore, an agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is working with Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) to launch the standard.

Wildly Effective Compliance Officer Tip of the Week - 50

When dealing with other functions such as Human Resources or Internal Audit, try asking the head of the function a simple question, “How do you think we could work together more effectively?”  An open-ended question like this, which specifically requests input from the other person can help to spring collaboration and to defuse any turf-war which may crop up.  Seek others advice on how to solve problems instead of festering in your own camp.  By engaging early, you can create better collaboration.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

Christmas came early this year for the Compliance world, with the Health Care Compliance Association, Women in Compliance, and European Compliance and Ethics Institute all happening over the course of 12 days.  It was incredibly intense, but also a fabulous chance to connect with so many peers and friends in compliance across the world.

National Harbor / HCCA

The festivities started last Sunday in National Harbor, Maryland, with 3000 participants at the Health Care Compliance Association’s conference.

I performed the keynote on being a Wildly Effective Compliance Officer, then did a session with the fantastic Calin Elardi on making training Relevant, Impactful and Fun.  The head of the Office of the Inspector General spoke before my keynote, and he stated that a recent survey found that 91% of CFOs ranked corporate culture a critical element of business success.  While this is an impressive figure, it begs the question- who are the other 9% who still don’t get it?!?
